Pet of the Week: Oakley the belly rub-loving Catahoula mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s time to meet Oakley, the adorable Catahoula mix that loves belly rubs like no other.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Oakley is a six-year-old Catahoula mix, and she was surrendered to the shelter after running at-large with a big group of dogs.
Oakley is said not to do well with large female dogs, and because of that we are requiring that she goes to a home without larger female dogs in the home. She’s said to do well with female dogs that are smaller than her, she even had a little dog that was her friend. She also doesn’t do well with cats however, so we are requiring that she goes to a home without cats.
Oakley is said to do great with people. She has loved her animal tenders here at the shelter, [and] in her previous home she was said to do well with children. Oakley does have a history of running at-large, so making sure that she’s contained while outside or properly on a leash is going to be key for her.
She’s a big love bug and she’s looking for her forever home. She has a few special needs, but if you find it in your heart to adopt her, she’s wanting to get out of the shelter. We also have a lot of bunnies here at the shelter, cats and other dogs looking for their forever homes.”
