Pet of the Week: Truman the shy German Shepherd mix with a big heart
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - In case he doesn’t see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night! Truman is a four-year old German Shepard mix who comes as a solo act with a knack for jumping the fence, but he’s a big sweetheart! Let’s meet him in today’s Pet of the Week!
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Truman is a four-year old German Shepherd mix. He’s been at the shelter now for a couple weeks. He was originally surrendered because his previous owners felt like he wasn’t quite adjusting to their new lifestyle.
Truman is said to be aggressive towards other dogs so we do have a requirement that he goes to a home without any other dogs, and he can be a little shy and fearful initially so we are requiring that he goes to a home without children under 12 years old. But once he decides that you’re his person, he is a big lover.
Truman has been wonderful towards his animal tenders here at the shelter. He walks very well on a leash. However, Truman can jump fences, so he should not be left outdoors unless it’s a fully enclosed area because he’s quite an escape artist.
He is completely potty trained and has been working on getting kennel trained.
Truman is really hoping to find his forever home, and if he sounds like the guy for you, please give the shelter a call. We also have a lot of bunnies here at the shelter, dogs, cats, and a few hamsters. If you’re interested in adopting, please give us a call!”
