FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A drive through vaccination clinic will be stationed this week in the Pioneer Park parking lot.

According to Tessa Walker Linderman, a Nurse Consultant for DHSS, the event which will be run by Capstone Clinic will allow for a comfortable vaccine experience. Walker Linderman explained, ”The idea behind this is that you would be able to just drive into the parking lot in your car and pull up for a vaccination, and then you would wait in the parking lot for your 15 minutes and be able to stay in your car the whole time.”

The clinic will take place on Thursday, May 27th and will go for several Thursdays in the weeks to come.

Walker Linderman continued, “There’s lots of planning in place to make this happen for Thursday, but that is still the plan. It will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. this Thursday and hopefully we’ll be able to continue that for several Thursdays going forward, potentially through June.”

According to Walker Linderman, only the Pfizer vaccine will be offered at the clinic. “We are planning on having Pfizer available so that means anyone 12 and older is able to receive the Pfizer vaccine. So we’ll have Pfizer there. When you receive the Pfizer vaccine, you do have to get a second shot three weeks later and our intention is to have this drive through clinic running hopefully through June. So you’ll be able to return to the drive through clinic three weeks from Thursday and get your second shot.”

And while you can get an appointment, it’s not required.

“It will be both appointments and walk-ins... so I guess it would be drive-ins. But yes, you can just show up and drive through. There might be a wait with walk-ins just depending on how busy it is, but we are welcoming people to just come in without an appointment. They can make an appointment at covidvax.alaska.gov. The State of Alaska website is having some issues right now, but if you do go to that website it does give you a link to schedule appointments that are still working. So you can look through the available clinics that are coming up and you’ll see the Fairbanks drive-through listed,” Walker Linderman said.
