FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A Fairbanks man was charged with robbery and assault after he allegedly pistol whipped a victim and stole a vehicle early Sunday morning.

Alaska State Troopers located the stolen vehicle later that day but it fled and struck the Famous Footwear building causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Troopers say they decided to terminate the pursuit but a short time later saw the vehicle on Geist Road. Troopers followed footsteps from the vehicle and arrested Anthony Simpson, 21 of Fairbanks, after a short stand-off.

Simpson was charged with First degree robbery, vehicle theft, theft, assault and criminal mischief.
