Alaska Goldpanners pause action due to positive COVID-19 test results, expected to resume Wednesday

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A number of Alaska Goldpanner players tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days, prompting the summer baseball organization to cancel a pair of games. The Goldpanners are expected to resume play on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against the San Diego Waves at Growden Memorial Park.

“In the last few days, we have had some players test positive for COVID-19,” the team said in a statement. “In order to protect the health and safety of our team, visiting teams, and team physicians we have cancelled yesterday’s and today’s Goldpanners games. We expect to resume play Wednesday, June 16 at 6:30PM. TONIGHT: Bercovich 35 vs SD Waves at 7PM. The Midnight Sun Game will not be cancelled!”

The 116th Midnight Sun Game is scheduled for June 21 with first pitch 10 p.m.

Denali State Bank Tournament action concludes Tuesday with the Waves and Berkovich 35 at 7 p.m. The Panners played one game of the tournament, a 10-6 loss to Berkovich 35 on Sunday. Continue to monitor webcenterfairbanks.com for updates.
