FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Those thinking about running for local office will have a chance to learn more about the process and what to expect if they decide to run.

The City of Fairbanks and the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) are holding a candidate open house.

The event will take place in Council Chambers at Fairbanks City Hall next Tuesday, June 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Rochelle Rodak, Deputy Clerk with the City of Fairbanks, says that the event is also open for those who may not necessarily run for office this election cycle.

“It’s just a really great opportunity to get people out and learn about the open positions within the community. You know, a lot of people want to make change but they don’t know how, and there’s quite a few opportunities this year to make a difference if you want to. Being that it is a small community, relatively speaking, it’s a good opportunity to learn about what it takes to become a government official,” Rodak said.

11 positions are up for election this year, including two seats on the Fairbanks City Council, three seats on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly, the position of FNSB Mayor, the position of North Pole Mayor, two seats on North Pole City Council, two seats on the borough School Board, and two at-large positions with Interior Gas Utility.
