Legion’s Alaska Wild rally to defeat Fairbanks Adult Amateur League team in exhibition
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Sometimes, all it takes is one. Without a team hit and down to their final out against the Fairbanks Pirates of Adult Amateur Baseball League in the top off the 7th inning, Alaska Wild’s Noah Perkins stepped to the plate trailing one run with the bases loaded. In the big moment, Perkins delivered with a shot over the centerfielder’s head for a bases clearing triple, giving the Wild the lead in the final inning.
However, Perkins’ heroics weren’t over yet, as he took over on the bump in the bottom of the 7th and closed the deal for the save in the 8-7 victory for the Wild - a team comprised of North Pole and Lathrop High School players.
Kaiden Clark earned the win on the mound in two innings of relief, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out one.
Alaska opened the scoring when Nick Jones scored on a wild pitch in the opening frame, before Makailund Brumberger sparked the Pirates with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, part of a two-run inning for the men’s league team.
The Wild took advantage of a Pirates error and wild pitch, bringing two more runs across the plate to make it 3-2. In a back-and-forth affair, the two teams traded runs until Fairbanks put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth ahead of the Wild’s comeback rally.
While the Wild had only one hit on the evening, they capitalized on ten walks, four errors and three hit-by-pitches from the Pirates.
Ethan Clifford started the game for the Wild, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four batters in four innings of work.
The Wild will host the Chugiak Mustangs Friday and Sunday, with a contest against East Anchorage Saturday, while the Fairbanks Adult Amateur Baseball League season continues as well.
