ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Search and rescue personnel have found the body of a man who did not resurface while swimming at a lake in Fairbanks over the July Fourth holiday.

Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online dispatch report that the body of 43-year-old Fairbanks resident Nathan Charlie was found by Village Public Safety Officers Friday. The dispatch goes on to say that Charlie was found, “in about 20 feet of water during sonar scanning and dragging operations.”

Troopers say Charlie was swimming with friends at a gravel pit lake near Chena Point Avenue on July 4. Around 8 p.m., “he went under the water and has not been seen since,” troopers wrote.

Searchers continued looking throughout the week until the discovery Friday.

AST says the Medical Examiner’s Office released the body to the family.
