FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska Division of Elections has announced King Crab as the winner of its first mock Ranked Choice Vote election.

In this vote, residents were asked to choose their favorite Alaskan Seafood.

The mock vote is designed to help educate Alaskans about the controversial election process which is being implemented in the 49th state for national and state elections in 2022.

Under ranked choice voting, a general election winner isn’t declared in a race until a candidate has a majority of the votes.

This can take multiple rounds of counting, with the least popular candidates being eliminated and their ballots re-allocated to that voter’s next favorite choice.

706 total votes were submitted, and in the third round of counting, King Crab was crowned triumphant.

More information about ranked choice voting can be found at the Division of Elections website.
