Pet of the Week: Major the excitable German Shepherd/Alaskan Husky mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - If you’re looking for a “major” improvement to your home, this may be the dog for you.
Major is a excitable and loving pup, looking for a loving home to call his own.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Major is a two-year-old German Shepherd, Alaskan Husky mix who was surrendered to the shelter due to the previous owner not being able to care for him any longer.
We are requiring that Major goes to a home without children under 12 years old because in his previous home, he was a little bit nervous initially, and he can be quite frightful when it comes to being around men that he’s not familiar with. He definitely prefers the ladies.
Major is said to be kennel trained, he is housebroken, [and] he’s been a very good boy here at the shelter. He’s been with us for going on a month now.
Major does have a lot of energy, he’s looking for an active household that can take him on plenty of walks. He can be a little reactive towards some dogs, so we’re just trying to let owners know that they should be cautious when introducing him to other animals.
We do not necessarily know how he does with cats, pocket pets, or livestock. So if you have any of those critters around, just please make sure to do slow and safe introductions.
Major is a happy boy here at the shelter looking for his forever home. If he sounds like the right fit for you, please give the shelter a call. We also have plenty of other dogs, cats, bunnies, and few rodents available here at the shelter.”
