Alaska Native communities receive grants from U.S. Department of Energy
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded more than $5 million to certain Alaska Native communities.
According to a press release from Alaska Congressman Don Young, the funds will go to help efforts by these communities to pursue projects that reduce energy costs and increase energy security.
Among the recipients were Noatak and the Northwest Arctic Borough; they were awarded nearly $2 million for solar power in their electric grid.
Metlakatla Indian Community will receive just over a million dollars to finish an electrical intertie.
