Fairbanks Borough Animal Shelter receives sizeable donation
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter has received a large donation that it plans to use on future projects.
According to Kimberly Imbert, Operations Supervisor, Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, the large donation came from an anonymous source. “The donation came from an estate of someone that passed away, and that donor wished to remain anonymous so we are respecting their wishes. The donation amount was $92,791.11.”
Imbert says the shelter plans to use the generous donation for long term projects that will benefit the community. “We’re being really thoughtful about how we use this money, because it’s an amazing gift to the shelter and the community. We are wanting to use it for something really long-lasting that’ll benefit the community and the animals for years to come. We do have a new shelter that we are hoping to get in the next few years, and [we’re] keeping that in mind because we don’t want to invest in a property that we might be leaving soon.”
According to Imbert, a handful of ideas have been tossed around on what to use the money for. “Ideas that we have for this donation are to put it into an education room, or a barn, or maybe even an exercise and play area for our animals outdoors. So we’re hoping for something to compliment the potentially the new shelter that we’ll be getting in the future.”
