Red Cross of Alaska seeks volunteers
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -The American Red Cross of Alaska has six volunteers deployed to assist in major disaster areas across the United States, mostly focused on the large scale wildfires in California. They have a critical need right now for disaster-focused mental health workers, and for shelter and logistics personnel. Signing up for a volunteer position involves filling out basic information and meeting with a Red Cross volunteer services director for an evaluation to determine what role potential volunteers would best fill.
Taylar Sausen, American Red Cross of Alaska Regional Communications Director told us, “It’s a matter of what you want to do in volunteering. If you want to respond to home fires right in your home town, you might be a part of our disaster action team. If you have some mental health training or some health training you could be in our disaster mental health field or our disaster health services field and help folks in your community, across the state, and across the nation.”
