NAACP of Fairbanks hosts municipal candidate forum

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - On Friday, September 17, candidates in the October municipal elections gathered for a forum held on Zoom, and hosted by the Fairbanks NAACP.

The event featured one candidate in each race.

School Board Candidates Erin Morotti and Chrya Sanderson discussed topics including the teaching of African-American history in schools and diversity among district staff.

Andrew Graham, Sally Gant and Jeffrey Rentzel were not present for the forum.

Borough Assembly candidates David Guttenberg, Lance Roberts, Kristan Kelly and Savannah Fletcher fielded questions about increasing vs decreasing the budget and the future of the Carlson Center.

Assembly candidates Kevin McKinley and Patricia Silva were not in attendance.

Fairbanks City Council candidates Shoshana Kun, Jerry Cleworth and June Rogers answered questions about diverse representation in City staff and budgeting for city services.

City Council candidate Jonathan Bagwill was not present for the forum.

Election Day will be held on October 5th.
