FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The city of Fairbanks is opening an additional free COVID testing site to help with demand. According to City Communications Director, Teal Soden, the Department of Public Health office asked them to open the site last year, but due to lack of demand it was closed.

She said the site was able to be quickly reopened given the current need. Soden said public health is working Mondays and Thursdays to provide PCR tests free of charge to anyone who needs them. The site is located at the City of Fairbanks Public Works Facility at 2121 Peger Road.

“Testing is available on Mondays and Thursdays by appointment and people can call public health at 452-1776 to request and appointment,” Soden said.

She said the tests are not rapid tests but they are working with the Alaska Virology Lab to get results as quickly as possible. Soden said they may open additional days if needed.

The original story has been updated to include the location of the testing site.
