FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks parents have come together to form a committee to help students and their families be heard.

The Parent Engagement Committee meets together every other month to talk about issues that concern them in the school district.

A primary goal is to engage more students and parents to have a more holistic view of the school district.

Jennifer Luke, Vice President of the School Board said, “The parent engagement committee is directly created to help the school district engage our parents, our families, our community, and help us reach out to the community, or help us understand what maybe parents’ stances are, or working on a calendar for when school will start and when school will end, and bring that to the school board for consideration.

The committee also instructs participants on how to get their voices heard, and make a positive impact on the schools in the district.
