Make-A-Wish Foundation gives Fairbanks 10-year-old a shopping spree with the Ice Dogs
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - 10-year-old Layla made a wish, and on Sunday, October 3, the Make-A-Wish Foundation enlisted the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to help make it come true.
Layla goes to school at Denali Elementary. She also has cystic fibrosis, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which uses donations to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses, wanted to help.
On Saturday, October 2, Layla got to watch the Fairbanks Ice Dogs play at the Big Dipper, and on Sunday, her wish was to go on a shopping spree around town.
Her journey took her to Barnes and Noble, GameStop, Michaels, Hot Topic, and the Halloween Store.
But her favorite store was Claire’s. “I bought a bunch of stuff. I got earrings, necklaces, bracelets, toys, a water bottle and stuff,” she said.
She even got to meet Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen.”
Layla’s long journey ended at Fred Meyer East, where the Ice Dogs surprised her at the entrance and helped her shop.
Ice Dog Jack Ring said, “It’s truly an honor that she would choose the Ice Dogs and us players to come out and have a shopping spree with her. It’s great that we can be a part of her special day, make it just a little bit better.”
His teammate Sam Berry agreed, saying, “We’re really grateful that we could come out today and help them shop.”
Layla came to Fred Meyer with a shopping wish list of her own, including “clothes, makeup, toys, art supplies, fake nails, nail polish, a bunch of stuff.”
While she may one day outgrow the toys, Layla will always carry the memories of her special day
