Local Fitness Studio will host PINK Ride in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - October is both Liver and Breast Cancer Awareness month and a local fitness center is hosting a cycling fundraiser Saturday October 16th to support two local Breast Cancer organizations.
F & H Fitness Studio’s event “PINK Ride for Breast Cancer Awareness” will allow fitness enthusiasts the opportunity to work out for a cause.
Any fitness level is encouraged to participate. Organizers also encourage people to wear pink - and if you do so, you could win a prize for the best costume.
Human Resources General Manager of the Fairbanks location of F & H Fitness, Meaghan Price, said that in preparation for any high-intensity cardio session such as this, it’s a good idea to consume extra carbohydrates and plenty of water before the workout.
A 2020 study from the National Cancer Institute has shown links between physical activity and a longer survival rate for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
In the article it states, “For women with breast cancer, regular exercise may improve survival”, adding, “Women with breast cancer who met the minimum physical activity guidelines both before diagnosis and at the 2-year follow up (after treatment) had a 55% reduced chance of their cancer returning and a 68% reduced chance of death from any cause (not just breast cancer) compared with those who did not meet the guidelines at both times.”
All funds raised from admission to the “PINK Ride” will be going to Fairbanks’ Breast Cancer Detection Center, and the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” organization.
This event will take place at F & H Fitness Studio October 16th at 5 p.m. in Shopper’s Forum Plaza.
