FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Blade is a big dog with an even bigger heart, and he’s looking for his new forever home.

Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:

“Blade is a five-year-old French Mastiff who was surrendered to the shelter because he wasn’t getting along with the other dog in the home. The dispute was really over a hotdog, so at this point in time we’re just recommending that his new owners be very cautious with Blade around other dogs, and make sure to do slow, safe introductions and to possibly just feed him separately from other animals.

Blade has been a super sweet dog here at the shelter. He’s a big boy with lots of energy, he’s very strong so his new owners should be prepared for that. It’s unknown how Blade does with children, so if you do have small kiddos around, just please again just be careful with introducing him to them.

Blade is house broken; he’s also said to be kennel trained and to know a few basic commands. Blade would highly benefit from going to a basic obedience class though, just to kind of sharpen up his commands and work on his listening skills.

Blade has been a real gentle giant here at the animal shelter. He is looking for his forever home, if you are interested in meeting Blade or any of our other dogs, cats, or bunnies we have here at the shelter, please give us a call!”
