Pet of the Week: Guinea pig family of Frederica, Olive, and Snickers
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Why settle for one when you can have all three?! This family of adorable guinea pigs are looking for their new forever home.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“I’m going to introduce you to three guinea pigs that are a bonded [family] that we are requiring be adopted together. We have Frederica, who is about 8 months old, and she has two daughters - Olive and Snickers - who are about 4 weeks old.
Again, these three are quite bonded, they really love each other’s company, so we are requiring that they be adopted as a group. If you are not familiar with guinea pigs, a few things that these little ones need, they should have timothy hay available for them for their teeth and GI health. They need a supplemented Vitamin C. So that can come in the form of peppers, dark leafy greens such as kale, or slices of oranges. You can also just buy supplements at the store. They should also have a measured amount of pellet food on a daily basis.
These three ladies drink perfectly out of a water bottle. They have a litter box in their enclosure. They haven’t quite figured that one out yet, they do have some learning to do. But they are all very sweet, loveable guinea pigs looking for their forever home.
If you are interested in adopting, we have quite a few other guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, and cats available for adoption here at the shelter.”
