Nanook’s men’s basketball loses to Western Oregon
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -Starting off with what looked like an advantage UAF put up an early six point lead in the first half but would be overcome by the Wolves who ended up with taking the first half by 15 points, ending the half at 31 to 46.
In the second half, the Nanooks put up an additional 43 points but, Western Oregon added 10 points to their lead for a total of 25 points over the Nanooks. The largest lead that the Wolves achieved was 30 points which was reduced at the end of the game as UAF scored five points and manged to prevent anymore baskets from Western Oregon. The game ended with a score of 74 to 99.
This comes as an unexpected loss as the Wolves had only one win prior to their victory over UAF.
Coby Heurta led the team for scoring, making 22 of the 74 points scored during the game. Two other teammates also had double digits in scoring, being Willie Thomas the third and Mawich Kachjaani, both scoring 16 points.
The highest individual score from Western Oregon was also 22 points, followed by 18 and 12 as the next highest score per individual.
The women’s team was scheduled to play Western Oregon before the men’s game. This did not happen however as the women’s game was postponed by the GNAC as a measure to protect the student athletes, coaches, staff, and fans, after health concerns were brought up.
