Very Important Pet: Astro the Malamute mix with a love for chew toys
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - This pup is so cute, he’s out of this world!
Astro is a loving young dog looking for a new forever home.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Astro is an 8-month-old Alaskan Malamute mix, and has been with us for quite some time here at the shelter.
He did have to have surgery on his hips so he’s still currently recovering. However, he did spend some time in foster care getting his physical therapy done. He does like to chase after small critters, that includes cats and small dogs, so we are requiring that he goes to a home without cats or small dogs. We are also requiring that Astro goes to a home without children under 5-years-old.
Astro has been a super sweetheart here at the shelter. He is a little mouthy when it comes to taking treats, so just use caution when giving him yummy food. He will need his new owner to continue on with his physical therapy for a few more weeks. He’s been doing excellent here at the shelter with the proper encouragement and the proper food. He’s been very willing to participate. The shelter fund is also offering his new owner to bring him to hydrotherapy on the shelter fund. They just need to coordinate that prior to adopting him.
Astro is housebroken and he has done excellent at keeping his kennel clean here at the shelter. He picked up a few commands at his foster and has proven that he knows how to sit and a few others when he’s in the right mood.
Astro is a young boy, he is looking for an owner that can help him with his healing process as well as his basic training. Astro does like to chew on things, so making sure that he has the appropriate chew toys is going to be key.
If you are interested in meeting Mr. Astro or any of the other dogs, cats, bunnies we have here at the shelter please give us a call!”
