FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - An oversize load traveling on South Cushman caused damage to the Mitchell Expressway Bridge at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) says one of two northbound lanes on South Cushman will remain closed until December 11 under the area where the bridge sustained damage.
DOT says the eastbound lane on the Mitchell Expressway will also be closed starting at the exit ramp to 30th avenue.
As a result, traffic will not be able to exit off the Mitchell to the Richardson Highway heading in the direction of North Pole. Traffic will be routed down 30th avenue, where they can cross South Cushman onto the Old Richardson highway.
The debris from the incident has been cleared and DOT will continue to assess any damage.
Travel updates will also be available on the 511 travel website.
