Alaska State Troopers gear up with Santa and his helpers this holiday season
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It may be chilly outside, but the cold weather and dense fog are not going to stop Santa and his helpers from teaming up with the Alaska State Troopers (AST) this week to purchase gifts for families in the Fairbanks area.
On Thursday December 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Troopers alongside Santa’s Helpers will be at Walmart gathering presents for those struggling this holiday season.
Captain Eric Spitzer with AST said in an interview that he is excited to give back to the community and be a part of this event. “This one event here I think is really important because it brings attention to the charitable donation, and it’s my hope that people see this and say ‘I want to contribute to that too’ so that more struggling families can have presents.”
Donations given to the non-profit organization Santa’s Helpers will be used to purchase gifts that will then be brought to the local Nissan dealership, where they will be packaged and delivered to families.
“They are going to co-mingle those into other packages for families, and they are going to be distributed so that children have toys on Christmas morning,” Spitzer explained. “Even if they are in an underprivileged family or they are struggling during the holiday season, they can have a good merry Christmas just like everyone should.”
Spitzer also noted it is not too late to donate to this event. Members of the community can visit North Star Community Foundations’s webpage and click the Santa’s Helpers link to contribute.
