Pet of the Week: Nellie the shy Catahoula mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - You could call this next pup a bit of a nervous Nellie, because that’s her name!
Shy and sweet, Nellie is a loving dog who is looking for a new forever home. Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Nellie is a 3-year-old Catahoula mix who has been looking for her new forever home with us since November, and she is such a sweetheart, so we’re really hoping to find her a home before the holidays.
Nellie was surrendered to the shelter because her previous owners just felt like they didn’t have enough time to devote to her. Nellie can be a little shy at first, so she does take a little time to warm up to new people, but once she does, she is extremely sweet.
Nellie was described as being jealous of the other dogs in her previous home. Because of that, we are requiring that she goes to a home without any other dogs, just because of that jealousy issue. Also, due to her shyness, we are requiring that she goes to a home without any children under 12, just to help her settle in a little bit better.
Nellie has done excellent at keeping her kennel clean here at the shelter, accident-free. She has been super sweet and loving towards her animal tenders. She does have the shorter coat, so making sure that she has a coat on, or possibly some booties as well when going outside in this really cold weather is going to be key for her. We do not know how Nellie does with smaller critters, such as our cats or pocket pets or livestock friends. If you have those critters around, just please be cautious if choosing to introduce her to new furry friends.
If Nellie sounds like the girl for you, please give the shelter a call. We also have plenty of other dogs, pocket pets and cats here at the shelter for adoption.”
