FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Downtown Association of Fairbanks will be holding a whole host of family friendly holiday events over the weekend.

According to David van den Berg, Executive Director of the Downtown Association of Fairbanks, events will start in the afternoon and go until the early evening.

“The fireworks that are happening tomorrow (Saturday) night at 8:00 p.m are capping off a fun day downtown,” Van den Berg explained. “We’ve got activities starting as early as 2:00 p.m. You can meet with Santa at the Fairbanks Community Museum from 2:00 to 6:00. Then we’ve got reindeer, a reindeer is going to be in Golden Heart Plaza from Archipelago Farms, and that’s going to be from 6:00 to 7:30. Then there’s the winter tree walk in Griffin Park. It’s put on by the borough, but there’s still about 20 trees that are decorated for the holidays.”

Then to cap off the night, a grand fireworks show will take place downtown.

“At 8:00 p.m. we have the fireworks,” Van den Berg concluded. “It’s about the 10th year of the fireworks, presented again this year by Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, and it’s the longest fireworks we will have had in probably a decade - a 21 minute show.”
