FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska Division of Elections is holding a contest for youth ages 5 to 18 to submit artwork for use in the 2022 election season.

Alaskan Residents between the ages of 14 and 18 will have the opportunity to submit artwork that may end up on the cover of the state’s 2022 Official Election Pamphlet.

At the same time, the division is holding a contest for designing next year’s “I Voted” stickers for youth ages 5 to 13.

Elections is calling for submissions from around the state starting Tuesday, December 21.

According to Gail Fenumiai, Director of the Division of Elections, the artwork is meant to represent “what it means to them to vote boldly, vote freely, and how it would be representative in the state of Alaska.”

The goal of the contest is twofold: “Getting the youth involved, understanding what elections are about and just knowing that there are elections; and it also gets their parents engaged because their parents, of course, have to authorize for their child to be able to submit the artwork and consent to that,” Fenumiai explained.

5 winning designs will be selected for each contest, one for each region in Alaska, “just so there’ll be something different for voters to have,” according to Fenumiai.

Submissions are due by February 4 of next year. Then, from February 21 to March 8, the public will vote for their favorites.

Later, public will choose from the top 4 vote-getters in each region, using the new ranked-choice voting system being implemented in state elections.

Winners will be announced on March 31.

Those interested in participating can submit their artwork via email to, or through the postal service to the Division of Elections office in Juneau.

Artwork can also be submitted in person at any Division of Elections office. The Fairbanks office is in the State of Alaska Fairbanks Regional Office Building at 675 7th Avenue.
