Lathrop takes first place for girls wrestling in state championship
LHS took third for boys in division one tournament
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Over the 17th and 18th of December, multiple interior teams convened down in Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center. That was the location of the 2021 state wrestling tournament which was split into three divisions being: the girls, division one boys, and division two boys.
The Malemutes claimed the state champion title for girls wrestling with the only triple digit score of 164 points. The purple and gold claimed two first place wins in the 103 and 112 weight classes. Megan Spencer was top dog in the 103 while Autumn Poland took first for the 112. Among other podium placements for the Malemutes included Kaylana Nations who took second in the 103, Kiertsyn Bockert taking second in the 119, Heaven Matheny in the 145 taking second aswell, and Roane Cook came in third in the 235.
North Pole took third in the tournament for the girls with a win in the 160 weight class coming from Emily Bellant.
The top five finishing schools were:
1. Lathrop - 164 2. Colony - 98 3. North Pole - 88 4. Bethel - 79.5 5. Palmer - 71
In the division two boys tournament, Delta, Glenallen, Hutchison, and Eielson all presented the interior. Delta and Glenallen being the two interior teams in the top 10. Hutch came in 13th and Eielson saw 17th.

In boys division one, Lathrop once again made a podium finish as a team. From the Malemutes, Colton Parduhn came in first in the 140 while Noah Curtis took first in the 285. North Pole came in 12th and West Valley 13th.
