FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The annual Sparktacular Fireworks Celebration will take place tonight, Friday, December 31, at 8 p.m. at the University of Alaska’s (UAF) West Ridge. Hosted by UAF and put on by the Fairbanks Curling Lions’ Club, this will be the Lions 32nd Sparktacular Celebration.

This year’s event will also be streamed live on the UAF Facebook and YouTube channels.

For those that plan to attend in person, UAF advises the public to use caution and arrive early.

The University says you will not be able to park alongside the roads on or near campus as in past years, due to the amount of ice and snow left from the recent winter storms. The roads need to be clear for emergency vehicles.

UAF advises people to car pool and arrive earlier than past years. Because of limited parking this year, you might have to walk to get a good view. Be prepared and make sure you are dressed for the weather as the temperatures are forecast to be 10 below with wind chill to 20 below.

UAF Fire and Police Departments will begin closing roads and ski trails near the staging area around 7 p.m. Pedestrians and snow machines are asked to stay clear of the railroad tracks. Personal fireworks, bonfires, drones and sky lanterns are prohibited.
