Rylan Kissell shoots prefect 600 in match against Air Force
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Over the weekend the UAF Nanooks had a match against the Air Force Academy. On day one it was another Nanook victory, as UAF won by 35 points in the aggregate score.
For small bore, the Nanooks shot 2363, while Air Force shot 2331. As for the air rifle, it was 2383 for Air Force, only to be overcome once again as UAF beat them by 3 points. As part of that victory, Rylan Kissell put up 600 points in air rifle which is a perfect score! This makes the fifteenth time this has ever happened in NCAA collegiate rifle. Kissell also shot a 594 in small bore making for an aggregate score of 1194. The last time a Nanook shot a 600 was in 2005 when Matt Rawlings posted a 600 against UTEP.
Teammates Gavin Barnick, Sara Karasova, and Kellen McAferty round out the top 4 while a shooter from Air Force took the fifth spot in the first match.
As for the second day, the Nanooks would win once again this time winning by 40 points as UAF shot an aggregate 4747 to Air Forces 4707. For the second match, Kissell took first again, this time two short of 600 in air rifle and 9 short in small bore. In order, Karasova, McAferty, and Barnick took second through fourth as an Air Force shooter found themselves in fifth place.
This makes for an eleven to zero record for UAF as the team remains undefeated. However, they have not yet reclaimed the number one spot in the NCAA.
As for UAF’s next match up in rifle, they will head to the Air Force Academy for the Patriot Rifle Conference championships taking place in Colorado Springs, Colorado on February 5th and 6th.
