$5,000 Nuvision scholarship opportunity for six high school students

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - An Alaska credit union, called Nuvision, is presenting an essay-writing scholarship opportunity for high school seniors.

All eligible competitors will be asked to write an essay up to two pages worth, explaining their opinion on financial success and describing the plans and goals they have for their future.

The program has been going on since 2003. This year there will be six, $5,000 grants awarded to the winning recipients with the essays that are chosen.

Keith Fernandez, Associate Vice President of Communications with Nuvision added, “We felt that it would be important to establish a scholarship so that students could get a head start. We know that the cost of college education can be daunting.”

Although Nuvision is located in five states, “We still want those Alaskans to sign up and enter the contest because it’s a great opportunity to get a positive start to your college life,” Fernandez notes.

This new chapter of college life presents many obstacles, and some of which are financial. The money given to the winners can help with books or the cost of tuition.

“Once we select our winners and they tell us what colleges they are going to in the fall, we work with the colleges to send the money to that student’s account,” Fernandez stated.

The reward will be beneficial to any and all seniors applying, Nuvision also hopes that this task encourages our future leaders to begin thinking about how they want their financial future to look as well.
