FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Costumes, dice, and comics galore could be found on Eielson Airforce Base last Saturday. But what many fans came out for was to meet the original zombie slayer himself, actor Bruce Campbell.

According to Campbell, he had been visiting military bases across Interior Alaska to help boost morale for the troops as part of the Last Fan Standing - Arctic Blast Tour.

“This is a tricky place for troops,” Campbell explained. “Alaska in the middle of the winter is not great for troops and their morale. So we asked them, ‘Where do you want us and when do you want us there?’ and somebody had recommended that we come to Alaska in frickin’ February because that’s when you need it.”

Campbell also spoke about the accessibility of smaller conventions. With more and more Cons springing up, it helps create more opportunity to join in the fun for those who are unable to go to larger events like San Diego or New York Comic Con.

Campbell elaborated, “I’m just glad that Comic Con seems to be everywhere now. So here we are Fairbanks, Alaska as you know, which is good because people can’t always get to each of these Comic Cons - so by proliferating like this, they can get to these smaller towns.”

According to Campbell, an additional benefit is more personal interactions between fans and those they come to see. “If you really think you’re going to hang out with Norman Reedus, shake his hands and go drink a beer, it’s not going to happen. But you go to something like this, you might meet somebody that’s like “Yeah, I’m not doing anything. What are you up to? What do you got?’”
