FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - According to the Alaska State Trooper Dispatch Report one person is dead and one person was arrested in connection with a shooting early Saturday morning.

Samuel Chastain, 19 years old, was shot in the head with a pistol and pronounced deceased at a residence in the North Pole area. Troopers were notified Saturday morning at 1:27 a.m.

23 year old Jubal James of North Pole was identified as the suspect.

Multiple witnesses were present at the scene.

Troopers stated Samuel Chastain and Jubal James were friends and were consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana, along with multiple juveniles, at a North Pole area residence.

James admitted he was manipulating a pistol and thought it was empty when he pointed the gun at Chastain and pulled the trigger.

Chastain was pronounced dead on the scene and next of kin have been notified. James was arrested for Murder in the 2nd Degree and taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center.
