Governor Dunleavy calls for $3700 Permanent Fund Dividend in 2022
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Governor Mike Dunleavy held a press conference on April 28 discussing the Alaska legislature’s work on a 2022-2023 state budget.
The governor highlighted his legislative priorities, including the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) and his “People First” Initiative.
He’s asking for the legislature to approve a PFD of at least $3,700.
The State of Alaska is projecting a surplus of billions of dollars for this year and 2023.
Dunleavy recommends that some of the surplus go into savings. “We don’t know what the volatility in oil may do. As we always say, we know that oil will go up, we don’t know when, and we know that it will go down, we don’t know when. So, being able to bank some of this windfall that we have now, I think most legislators that we talk to think it’s a good idea,” he said.
