Chena Tool Swap and Goldie’s team up: thrifting for tools
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - From the home flipper to the backyard gardener, there will be something for everyone at this weekend’s tool swap.
Goldie’s and Chena Tool Swap are teaming up Sunday to host the swap’s largest fundraiser of the year on 5th Street in Fairbanks.
Since opening in 2018, the non-profit simply asks for a donation from those interested in becoming a member of the Chena Tool Library.
The donation lasts an entire year, making it possible for anyone to use any tool they would like for roughly one to two weeks at a time.
President of the Chena Tool Swap Joe Welch said, “I kind of like the saying that we’re kind of like the neighbor that has all the tools and never says ‘no.’”
From 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., folks in the community are welcome to bring used tools of all kinds to be re-sold on consignment at Goldie’s.
Then from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., consumers are encouraged to come sip and eat while they shop for used tools at a good price.
There will be pressure washers, screwdrivers, snow blowers, saws and many more useful tools available for purchase.
The public is invited to support the local tool swap by either donating a tool, purchasing a tool, or even just stopping by for food and drinks to check everything out.
Melissa Head, secretary of the tool library said, “The tool swap is a great opportunity to also keep tools in their useful life and not just go to the landfill if you want to get rid of them. It promotes more of a re-use economy instead of just purchasing things that you don’t necessarily need all of the time.”
