FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -As Joy school students, faculty and staff gear up for their last days at their beloved elementary school, members of the community came together to show their support and love through “positive picketing.”

Joy is one of the three elementary schools in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District closing its doors for good once this school year ends.

On Friday morning, the community decided to come together to support the teachers and students through this tough transition.

Amanda Langhorst, a Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Member who was outside the school positively picketing said that these closings impact the community greatly - and she, along with many others, wanted to bring some joy to this closing chapter. “It’s just hard to see that so many people are going through change and that our community is being impacted in that way,” Langhorst said. “I think just today we are trying to bring some positivity to that. It’s to support those people that are really impacted.”
