FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The 40th Annual Hospice Plant Sale is set to take place Saturday, and community members are invited to Foundation Health Partners’ greenhouse for the fundraiser to benefit hospice patients.

70 volunteers have been working hard to care for plants of all kinds - from flowers and trees to fruits and vegetables.

Althea St. Martin, chair of the Hospice Plant Sale siad, “The beauty of it is the beauty that you’ll see. We have strawberries. We have dahlias. We have flower baskets. We have so many things here.”

For 40 years, members of the community have come together to gather plants and pots that can be donated to the sale.

St. Martin said, “Half of the plants that you see here are actually donated plants - so the whole community is buying, supporting and then selling them.”

Hospice workers and volunteers care for our loved ones when we are no longer able to, and for this event, between the organization and its volunteers, they are going the extra mile.

“We have so many volunteers so willing to help,” St. Martin said. “What I find also is so many of our volunteers have been touched by a hospice service, and that makes them so loyal to the program and others in that situation.”

The event will be held tomorrow at 2000 Turner Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers want shoppers to know that if they plan on purchasing a gallon of compost tea for half price, they should bring their own jug to fill.
