FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - In light of the Memorial day weekend, Fairbanks Boy Scout Troop 47 took time to not only honor the American Legion plot at the Birch Hill Cemetery but also to clean up the area.

The project was led by Jason Powrs, a life scout on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout who’s using his time to develop leadership skills. The troop, along with volunteers, spent the afternoon with rakes and other cleaning supplies to restore the graves of veterans.

Jason Powrs shared that he hopes “to help make different towns look better. Instead of ignoring the way it was, we can help fix it up again.”
