FAST Planning to host street painting in downtown Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Sections of road around downtown Fairbanks are about to get a makeover.
FAST Planning, an organization that plans out transportation changes in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, is undertaking a massive paint project this weekend.
Their goal is to paint murals along Lacey Street from 1st to 12th Avenue, and on 5th Avenue from Barnette to Noble Street.
These paint jobs envision potential projects for Fairbanks residents to consider.
For instance, changes are being considered for 5th avenue, where it would have only one lane with wider sidewalks.
Meanwhile, FAST Planning’s Lacey Street mural imagines the street as a long park or walkway.
30 to 60 volunteers are expected for the endeavor, which is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 4 and 5.
Anyone interested in joining is welcome. Jackson Fox, Executive Director of FAST Planning said, “I do have the feeling that we are going to be a little bit shorthanded with the folks that we have, and so if you are interested in volunteering and helping paint atbone of the four locations that we’re doing here downtown, then I would recommend that you just show up on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. We’ll have a headquarters at the Sadler’s parking lot on 5th Avenue, and you can check in there, and we’ll give you a safety vest, and we will direct you to where the needs are.”
