MACS Transit System changes starting soon
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - There are about three weeks left to ride the MACS transit system for free. The Fairbanks North Star Borough says it will begin collecting fares on July first.
Due to a driver shortage, the MACS transit system will suspend Saturday service for the following lines: blue, green, purple/brown, and red. The borough also says there are also changes to the Van Tran system with reduced and limited services. Van Tran patrons will need to call 907-459-1011 for additional information and to schedule a ride.
There will be several public meetings to discuss the affected routes and to learn about how to read the schedule, how to use a smartphone to see where the bus is, and more. The following meetings will be held at the Noel Wien Library in the conference room on:
June 20, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
June 28, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The following meetings will be held at the North Pole Library in the multi-purpose room on:
June 21, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
June 28, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
According to a press release, the Borough is still conducting a MACS transit survey. Information will be collected until June 30th. The survey can be found HERE.
