Alaska State Troopers close Richardson Highway Monday morning
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - UPDATED, June 13, 2022, 5:45 p.m.
If you were on the Richardson Highway this morning, chances are you were caught in the road closure near Eielson Air Force Base.
The Alaska State Troopers (AST) dispatched an alert at approximately 8:30 a.m. today, Monday, that the Richardson Highway was closed at Mile 341, in both directions, due to law enforcement activity near the Eielson Air Force Base gate.
Late this afternoon, AST reported they were asked by Eielson Air Force personnel to assist with shutting down all lanes of traffic on the Richardson Highway. The request was in response to a “bomb” that a K-9 was alerted to on a suspicious vehicle attempting to enter the base.
The highway was closed for approximately two hours as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialists (EOD) and security forces cleared the vehicle and determine there was not a threat.
