FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) will be holding a special board meeting on Monday.
The Board of Directors will be voting on whether or not the Healy location will be retired or extended.
Over 200 GVEA customers attended meetings last month in Fairbanks and Healy. The decision regarding Healy Unit Number 1, and the deadline for its future, was the starting point for considering GVEA’s future power generation.
The decision will have an impact on rates, reliability and the environment, with each area being analyzed.
A presentation of those findings will be presented at the special meeting.
Members can attend the meeting via a “Microsoft Teams” link. Steps for members to attend are listed below:

In preparation for the presentation Meadow Bailey, Director of External Affairs and Public Relations for GVEA said, “To keep it running we would have to make an investment in some emission control. It’s about a $30 million investment, so we need to make the decision: will we make that investment in the environment controls, in the emission controls, or do we want to retire that plan?
