Construction Report: Curry Corner maintenance
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Starting on Monday July 25, a section of the Old Steese Hwy. will be shut down as the Department of Transportation conducts maintenance operations between Kokomo and Vernal St.
This project comes as culverts in the area have failed to allow water to pass through, with water now going over the road. This is primarily due to the permafrost in the area that shifts the ground.
To address the issue, the Department of Transportation will tear up the road where the culverts are buried and replace them with new structures.
The biggest challenge for the project however is the four feet of asphalt that needs to be removed before they can begin to dig up the dirt underneath.
The project is expected to end on Thursday, July 28 according to a Danielle Tessen, a spokesperson for the Northern Region of the Alaska Department of Transportation.
