FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Mike Prax is running for District 33 in the Alaska House of Representatives.

He said he is running to use what he’s learned in the last couple years of serving in the House to help his district. “I did most of my work with the Education Committee and the Health and Social Services Committee, and there’s still a lot to be done on that, so I want to try and focus on working with the Office of Management and Budget and the administration to set more definite goals, specific goals. I think that will help improve communication between the general public and the administration.”

Prax would like to improve Alaska’s educational proficiency by the standards established. “The numbers do not look good for Alaska. They don’t look good for the whole nation as far as the standards that have been set nationwide. Everybody agreed this is what people should be able to do, students should be able to do in their educational career.”

He said the state needs to find a definition for long-term sustainable fiscal plan. “We have to agree on what that is, what that means, and agree - not just beat each other up over it. We have to try and agree on that and get some sort of definite expectation out of the state government.”

Prax is running unopposed in the primary election on August 16.
