FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Republican Ruben McNeill, Jr. is running for district 35 in the Alaska House of Representatives.

He said he is running because he feels that he has a message that will resound with the people of Alaska in these times. “I feel like my message for the time is one of American peril. I’m very concerned for what’s going on in the country, the direction that we’re headed. I’m very concerned for the direction the state is headed.”

McNeill wants to bring wholesome American values back to Alaska. “We need to bring back faith, freedom, hard work, and just an American sense to how we operate in our neighborhoods. You know, Americans are good people, hardworking, generous people. They don’t have their hands out for freebies, or they shouldn’t. That’s not how Americans operate. This is the land of opportunity.”

He said we need to get back to these principles because that is when America is at its best. “I think COVID, COVID and the way we’ve dealt with COVID has kind of drug us away from that, and I think it’s dangerous for the country. I think it’s dangerous for our kids. I think there’s been a mentality shift since COVID and I’m very concerned about that.”

McNeill is running against Tim Parker, Kieran Brown, Ashley Carrick and Kevin McKinley in the primary election on August 16.
