FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Republican Nate DeMars is running for District 34 in the Alaska House of Representatives.

He said he is running because with redistricting, his district needs a strong, common-sense conservative voice. “I hope to work with the legislators for a long-term fiscal plan, really maximizing responsible resource development, ensure the tax policy is stable for all businesses, producers and Alaskans in general,” he explained.

DeMars said the Permanent Fund Dividend needs to be consistent and able to be reasonably projected. “Right now, with how the last seven years have been working, we don’t have that consistency. We don’t know what’s going to happen until the final minutes of the legislative session, for the most part, or sometimes after, and going forward, we need to have a consistent plan.”

He said he’s closely followed state politics for the last six years. “I believe that I’m the best candidate because I’m not a career politician. I’m the only one in District 34 that does not currently hold political office. I have no plans of long-term, trying to move my way up the political ladder. I’m here to make a difference.”

DeMars is running against Frank Tomaszewski and incumbent Grier Hopkins in the primary election on August 16.
