The American Heart Association holds 28th annual Heart Walk
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Wet weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of those who attended the 28th annual Heart Walk Saturday morning at Veterans Memorial Park in Fairbanks.
The American Heart Association, Alaska Branch started registration at 9 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10 a.m.
The walk around downtown Fairbanks brought awareness to Heart Disease and the research being conducted to prevent and cure the condition. The event also doubled as a fundraiser, for which the golden heart community contributed over one hundred thirty thousand dollars.
“The Fairbanks community has really been so supportive, they’ve come out, even on this rainy day, to come out and support this event. I just couldn’t be more happy for what they’ve accomplished and what we are able to just bring and just lift them up and be supportive of cardiovascular health and getting research done and making sure that all of Fairbanks is healthy,” said Kristin George, Executive Director for the American Heart Association Alaska Branch.
Kristin George explained how the funds will help the battle against Heart Disease.
