Six snow machiners rescued outside of Richardson Monument area
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A group of six snow machiners were rescued Monday after running out of fuel, food, and not wearing the proper winter gear. According to an SOS activation, they were stranded and one of the riders was believed to be going into hypothermic shock.
A report from the Alaska State Troopers indicated the group was riding in the mountains, just outside of the Richardson Monument area, around mile-post 200 Richardson Highway.
The 11th Air Force Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (AKRCC) was contacted and located the riders using GPS coordinates. Using a C130 plane and 146 helicopter, AKRCC picked up the riders and returned them to their vehicles and toy-hauler camper.
One rider was transported to Anchorage by helicopter for cold weather related injuries.
