FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Law enforcement officers are “in it - to win it” this weekend as the Alaska Peace Officers Association takes part in their annual food drive to support the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

The Alaska State Troopers, North Pole Police Department, Fairbanks Police, Eielson Air Force Base Security Forces, and Fairbanks Airport Police are all participating.

Food or cash donations brought to any of these departments will not only help them claim a victory in this friendly food fight, but all donations go right back into the community where they are much needed, especially with a big holiday right around the corner.

Anne Weaver, CEO of the Fairbanks Community Food Bank explains, “You have got these amazing servants and protectors of this community coming along to make sure that folks are fed. That the basic needs are met and one of the things that we are so proud of is that we get to partner with a lot of these agencies and we get to help them support the community. When they walk into a hard home situation and they are able to bring food to that, what a cool thing to be a part of. So really it is this full circle. It is the community being part of a competition, but all comes back here and it all helps.”

The last day to donate to this food drive will November, 20, which is this Sunday! Donations can be made online on the Fairbanks Community Food Bank webpage for the department of your choice.

Law enforcement officers will also be present at various grocery stores this weekend collecting donations.
