Ester woman dies in house fire

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Ester Volunteer Fire Department and other area fire crews responded to a structure fire in the Ester area Saturday evening around 8:30 p.m.
According to a dispatch report from the Alaska State Troopers, while fire crews were fighting the fire they located an unresponsive female inside the burning residence.
71-year-old Amy Pohl was removed from the house. Lifesaving efforts were made to resuscitate her, who succumbed to her injuries.
A preliminary investigation from a Deputy Fire Marshall determined the fire likely started from a woodstove in the living room.
“A preliminary investigation determined that the fire likely originated near a woodstove in the living room,” trooper dispatch reported. “The structure sustained significant damage. No foul play is suspected at this time.”
Pohl’s next of kin has been notified and her remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
